A southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, within that flow a front moves northwards over the South Island this morning and afternoon then onto the North Island this evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Areas of cloud with the chance of a shower or two about mainly afternoon onwards, the Bay Of Plenty remains mainly dry. Southwesterly winds pick up in the afternoon.
High: 13-15

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly sunny with southwesterly winds, mid afternoon southwesterlies freshen bringing some cloud then a few evening showers.
Highs: 10-13

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with light west to southwest winds, some cloud late afternoon or evening as southwesterly winds freshen. Chance of a late coastal shower or two.
Highs: 13-14

Wellington

A mostly sunny morning, early to mid afternoon a gusty southerly change develops bringing some cloud then a few showers in the evening.
Highs: 11

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny weather. Late afternoon or evening southwesterly winds freshen bringing some cloud with the chance of a few showers, mainly about southern Marlborough.
High: 12-13

Canterbury

Mostly sunny this morning then a midday southwest change brings showers, a risk of hail and snow flurries to 300m then clearing this evening.
Highs: 9-10

West Coast

Cloudy areas, southwesterly winds pick up towards midday then a few showers possible in the afternoon before clearing.
High: 10

Southland & Otago

Morning showers, some heavy with hail and snow flurries to 300m then clearing by midday, perhaps not clearing coastal Otago till evening. Cloud gradually breaking in the afternoon for Southland and Central Otago. Brisk cold southwesterlies ease.
Highs: 8
