A front moves over the North Island today and with it comes heavy rain and strong winds gale in exposed areas, the South Island has a deepening low forming over it with rain or showers likely for most regions heavy about Nelson / Marlborough.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy with a few spells of rain, becoming heavy for a time as strong northeasterly winds gale in exposed areas change northwest. There could be a thunderstorm or two about this afternoon also.
Highs: 19-22

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy with areas of rain, becoming heavy by midday then easing to showers
mid afternoon as strong northeasterlies tend northwest. Rain not easing till
late afternoon or evening about the Central North Island. Rain about Taranaki
could be especially heavy for a time with thunderstorms, elsewhere sees a risk
of thunderstorms this afternoon also but not as high as Taranaki.

Eastern North Island

Cloudy with rain developing later this morning, winds strengthen from the
north. A burst of heavy rain possible this afternoon for a time then clearing in
the evening as winds tend northwest.
High: 18-20

Wellington

Cloudy with spells of rain developing this morning, heavy for a time this
afternoon then easing in the evening as gusty northerlies tend more
northwest.
High: 18

Marlborough & Nelson

Cloudy with rain developing this morning, becoming heavy about Nelson
around mid to late morning then heavy for Marlborough around midday and into the
afternoon. Gusty northeasterlies tend northwest in the evening with rain
clearing. There could be a thunderstorms or two about with any rain, more so
about Tasman / Nelson.
Highs: 18-19

Canterbury

Cloudy about South Canterbury with the odd shower about, a few sunny areas
further north. Areas of precipitation moving northwards in the afternoon and
evening with a southerly change, rain may be heavy at times from evening for
some.
Highs: 19-20

West Coast

Early rain eases then expect cloudy skies with the odd shower and northerly
quarter winds, rain late afternoon or evening again possibly heavy with
thunderstorms as winds change to the southwest.
Highs: 17-18

Southland & Otago

Cloudy with showers now and then, Otago dry at first not seeing showers
till afternoon. Otago Peninsula northwards in the evening sees some persistent
rain for a time then easing around midnight. South to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 12-16
