A front moves northwards over the South Island today bringing some rain to most regions for a time, the front then hits the lower North Island later this evening / overnight. The North Island’s weather is looking mostly cloudy in the west today and sunny out east although watch for that front later in the day about Wellington, Manawatu and the Wairarapa.

Cloudy periods with light west to northwesterly winds.

Auckland

Mostly cloudy with westerly breezes, chance of a light shower now and
then.
Highs: 24-25

Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas and some cloud, light west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 26-27

Waikato & Central North Island

Mostly cloudy with westerly winds, chance of a light shower now and then
otherwise dry. Overnight winds change southeast with a few showers possible,
more so about the Central North Island.
Highs: 23-26

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with northwesterly winds, picking up this afternoon especially
about the Wairarapa where winds could become gusty. Winds change south to
southwest this evening about the Wairarapa bringing some rain, moving into the
Hawkes Bay around midnight.
Highs: 26-30

Taranaki

Mostly cloudy with breezy westerly winds, the odd light shower about.
Overnight expect showers as winds change southeast.
Highs: 22-23

Western North Island

Mostly cloudy with west to northwest winds, chance of a light shower this
morning then later this evening expect a greater risk of showers as winds change
southeast.
High: 24

Wellington

Sunny areas and some cloud, gusty north to northwesterly winds. Rain
develops this evening with a southerly change.
High: 22

Nelson

Mostly sunny with light winds tending northerly by midday, this evening a
southerly change brings a spell of rain which clears around midnight.
High: 24-25

Marlborough

Mostly sunny with northwesterly breezes, later this afternoon or early
evening winds change southerly bringing a spell of rain which clears around
midnight.
High: 29

Canterbury

High cloud this morning, light winds near the coast and northwesterlies
inland. A southwest change this afternoon brings some rain then easing to
showers which clear later this evening.
Highs: 22-24

West Coast

Rain with heavy falls spreading northwards along the coast reaching North
Westland by midday. Rain clearing fairly promptly in behind as northwesterly
winds change southwest, rain clears South Westland this afternoon and further
north this evening.
Highs: 18-19

Coastal Otago

Heavy showers or rain this morning then mostly clearing this afternoon,
there may be the odd remaining shower. A few sunny areas peak through this
afternoon too, cool southwesterlies.
Highs: 14-15

Central Otago

Rain this morning then clearing around midday, sunny areas increase this
afternoon with cool southwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-16

Southland

Morning rain eases to showers, chance of some small hail at times. Gusty
cold southwesterlies.
Highs: 14-15
