A ridge lies over the North Island today bringing mainly settled and sunny weather, expect some cloud about the east coast and for exposed northeastern areas. The South Island is under a northwesterly airflow, hot temperatures for some in the east especially inland. Some rain about the far south, for more details check out the forecast below.

Northland
Sunny areas and periods of cloud with easterly
winds, cloud thicker at times in the east with the low risk of a brief shower or two.
Highs: 25-27

Auckland

Mostly sunny with east to northeasterly winds after any morning cloud breaks away. Cloud a bit thicker out near
Great Barrier Island during the day with the chance of a light shower or two, showers more
likely overnight.
Highs: 26-27

Bay Of Plenty

Periods of cloud and sunny spells, east to northeasterly breezes. Late
afternoon / evening there could be a shower or two about. Chance of an overnight
patchy shower about western Bay Of Plenty near the coast.
Highs: 25-26

Waikato & Central North Island

Mostly sunny with light winds after early cloud clears.
Highs: 27-28

Eastern North Island

Cloudy areas with easterly winds, the odd light drizzle patch possible
about Gisborne. The Wairarapa has more frequent sunny areas.
Highs: 22-23

Taranaki

Sunny areas and some cloud, light northerlies tend more westerly in the
afternoon.
Highs: 23-25

Western North Island

Sunny with easterly breezes. A westerly quarter sea breezes develops right
on the coast in the afternoon.
Highs: 24-29

Wellington

Sunny with north to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 25

Nelson

Sunny with light winds in the morning then afternoon north to northeasterly
winds.
Highs: 24-25

Marlborough

Sunny with northeasterly winds.
High: 28

Canterbury

Sunny with easterly winds, fairly breezy at times near the coast. Inland
winds tend lighter north to northwest with hotter weather.
Highs: 24-33

West Coast

Sunny areas and some cloud, northerlies. Cloudy about Fiordland with rain
developing there in the afternoon. Warmer weather about inland Buller.
Highs: 22-25

Coastal Otago

Sunny areas and thickening high cloud, north to northeasterly winds. Winds
change southwest later in the evening. Cooler right on the coast and hotter
inland.
High: 24-28

Central Otago

Plenty of high cloud with north to northwesterly winds, high cloud thickens
in the afternoon then a few spots of rain possible in the evening. Hotter
weather in the east.
Highs: 23-27

Southland

Cloudy or becoming cloudy this morning, northerly winds. A few showers move
through this afternoon then clear in the evening as winds tend southwest.
High: 23
