A front moves northwards over the country today, preceding it is a strong northwesterly airflow then winds change west to southwest behind it. Expect rain for western areas as the front moves north, rain will be heavy for the South Island’s West Coast. Out east conditions are looking drier however a few showers should still make it through.

Auckland & Northland
Cloudy spells with northwesterly winds freshening, chance of a light shower this morning then becoming mainly dry. The risk of a shower picks up again in
the evening then overnight rain moves in.

Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas and some increasing cloud this afternoon, northwesterly winds.
Overnight rain.
High: 15

Waikato & Central North Island

Becoming mostly cloudy by midday, northwesterly winds increase with the odd
light shower possible afternoon onwards. Rain moves in later this evening.
Highs: 12-14

Eastern North Island

Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, northwesterlies freshen this morning
about the Wairarapa and this afternoon further north. The odd spot of rain later
this evening.
Highs: 16-17

Taranaki

Mostly cloudy with increasing north to northwesterly winds, the odd shower
turning to rain late afternoon. Rain eases back to showers later on this evening
with northwesterlies easing.
High: 14

Western North Island

Mostly cloudy with increasing northwesterly winds, showers move in late
afternoon / evening.
High: 15

Wellington

Cloudy this morning with brisk northwesterlies, strong at times. Showers
move in this afternoon then expect some evening rain which clears overnight.
Northwesterlies strong for most of the afternoon / evening then easing.
High: 13

Nelson

Cloudy with increasing northerlies, some rain from afternoon then clearing
in the evening. North to northwesterly winds strong for a time late
afternoon.
Highs: 12-13

Marlborough

High cloud thickens in the morning with increasing northwesterlies, strong
at times from midday. A few spells of rain pass through late afternoon / early
evening then clearing with winds easing.
Highs: 14-15

Canterbury

Thick high cloud with breezy north to northeasterly winds, odd spot of rain
late afternoon then clearing. Clear skies in the evening.
High: 15

West Coast

Rain with heavy falls eases mid afternoon to showers, strong
northwesterlies change westerly.
Highs: 12-13

Coastal Otago

Thick high cloud at first with northerlies, winds change brisk southwest
late morning with showers which clear in the evening.
Highs: 11-12

Central Otago

Morning rain (heavy about and west of the Southern Lakes area) with
northwesterlies changing westerly, rain easing to showers early to mid
afternoon. Towards dawn on Tuesday southwesterlies freshen with more persistent
showers and snow flurries to 400m, a risk of hail too.
Highs: 9-10

Southland

Morning rain with a westerly change, mostly clearing early afternoon
although the odd shower may remain. Winds return to the northwest after midday.
Overnight southwesterlies freshen with further showers and snow flurries to
400m, a risk of hail too.
High: 10
