An easterly quarter airflow lies over the country today bringing rain to many areas, only a few lower parts of the South Island escape some form of precipitation. Rain will be heavy for Northland, Bay Of Plenty and especially the Coromandel.
Northland
Heavy areas of rain especially in the east with thunderstorms possible then
easing during the afternoon. Brisk northeasterlies ease late afternoon
onwards.
Cloudy with periods of rain, more persistent from afternoon. Breezy to
brisk northeasterlies.
Cloudy with drizzle patches, rain from afternoon becoming heavy (especially
about the Coromandel). East to northeast winds gradually freshen during the
day.

Waikato & Central North Island
Patchy showers then rain moving in during the afternoon. Easterly winds,
freshening later in the evening.
Highs: 13-17
Eastern North Island
Cloudy with easterly winds, drizzle about the Wairarapa spreads elsewhere
in the afternoon. Evening rain.
Periods of rain with brisk east to northeast winds, rain eases in the
evening.
High: 16
Western North Island
Cloudy with light showers, rain from afternoon, easterly winds.
Cloudy with drizzle patches, rain from late afternoon or evening. East to
southeast winds.
Rain with east to southeasterly winds, heavy falls possible.
Rain with east to southeasterly winds, heavy falls possible.
Periods of rain with east to southeast winds.
Periods of rain, easing late afternoon. Brisk to strong southeasterly
winds. Fiordland mainly dry at first although a few showers move down from the
north in the afternoon.

Coastal Otago
Cloudy with east to northeast winds, the odd light shower at times from
midday.
Mostly cloudy with easterly winds, the odd light shower at times from
midday.
Cloudy periods with easterly breezes.
High: 12
