A northwesterly airflow lies over the country today, eastern regions Canterbury northwards get the best weather today while about the south and west of the South Island skies are cloudier with showers or rain about. For the west of the North Island, general areas of cloud increase and there may be the odd shower for some, mainly this afternoon.

Northland
Periods of cloud with light west to northwest winds, low risk of a shower about otherwise dry.
Highs: 18-20

Auckland

Sunny spells and some increasing cloud with light northwesterlies, a few
brief showers possible at times from midday any of which clear in the
evening.
High: 19

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island

Sunny spells and some increasing cloud, light northwesterlies. A few brief
afternoon showers possible north of Lake Taupo. About the Bay Of Plenty
conditions remain mostly dry during the day with light winds.
Highs: 14-18

Eastern North Island

Sunny with light winds, some overnight high cloud.
Highs: 19-21

Western North Island

Sunny spells and some increasing cloud, northwesterly winds. Showers move
in towards dawn tomorrow morning. Cloudy spells about Taranaki with a few light
showers possible there in the afternoon.
Highs: 16-17

Wellington

Sunny spells with brisk northerly winds, cloud thickens in the evening.
Showers move in towards dawn tomorrow morning.
High: 15-16

Nelson

Sunny with some cloud developing from afternoon, northwesterly winds.
High: 16

Marlborough

Sunny with northwesterly winds.
Highs: 18-19

Canterbury

Mostly sunny with some high cloud, thickening in the evening. Light winds.
Highs: 17-18

West Coast

Cloudy with rain about South Westland / Fiordland, patchy falls further
north. Northerly winds.
High: 13

Coastal Otago

Cloudy with the odd shower from late morning, rain develops late afternoon
or evening with a southwest change. Rain eases back to showers overnight.
Highs: 12-13

Central Otago

Mostly cloudy with scattered rain developing around late morning, rain
eases to the odd shower in the evening with a southwest change.
Highs: 12-13

Southland

Morning rain then easing to the odd shower / sunny spell from midday as
northerlies change southwest. Showers clear around midnight.
High: 13
