A low pressure system west of the country combined with an anticyclone out east drags a northeasterly airflow over New Zealand. Most places are cloudy with patchy rain or drizzle about for some, more persistent rain falls on the South Islands West Coast.

Northland
Mostly cloudy with showers south of about the Bay Of Islands area, drier further north although a shower or two sneaks in overnight north of Kaitaia. Northeasterly winds.

Auckland

Cloudy with the odd shower or drizzle patch, especially in the north then
spreading a little further south overnight. Breezy northeasterlies.

Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy with the odd light shower, easing overnight. Easterlies.

Waikato & Central North Island

Mostly cloudy with the odd light shower clearing this evening, light
easterlies.

Eastern North Island

Cloudy with the odd light shower clearing this evening, light east to
northeast winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 10-12

Western North Island

Cloudy with any areas of rain clearing this evening, easterly winds ease.
About Taranaki it is cloudy but mainly dry, easterly winds.

Wellington

Cloudy with the odd spot of rain, mostly clearing this evening.
Northeasterly winds.

Nelson

Cloudy with patchy rain or drizzle, northeasterlies develop this
evening.

Cloudy with the odd spot of rain or brief shower, becoming restricted to
far western parts of the region overnight. Light winds.

Canterbury
Cloudy with a few spits
of rain possible, the odd shower about South Canterbury. Brisk east to northeast
winds ease overnight.

Rain with occasional heavy falls, east to northeast winds.

Cloud increases this evening with breezy northeasterly winds, the odd
shower or spot of rain moves in overnight.

Cloudy with the odd shower about far western parts of the district
spreading elsewhere overnight. East to northeast winds.

Southland

High cloud with light easterly quarter winds.
Tonight’s Low: 8
