A southeasterly airflow covers the country tonight, periods of rain or drizzle for eastern areas and drier out west. Some rain about the West Coast of the South Island however north of about Hokitika.

Mainly clear with some high cloud, southwesterly winds ease this evening.

Areas of high cloud thicken up a bit tonight, southwesterly winds ease
later this evening.

Bay Of Plenty
Periods of cloud with southwesterlies winds easing this evening.

Waikato & Central North Island
Clear spells and periods of cloud, south to southeasterly winds (westerlies
about the Waikato ease this evening). Odd shower spreading into eastern parts of
the Central North Island at times.

Periods of rain with south to southeasterly winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 15-17
Western North Island
Cloudy with brief rain at times, southeasterly winds. About Taranaki expect
areas of cloud and brisk south to southeasterly winds, there may be some brief
rain overnight.

Wellington
Periods of rain with brisk to strong southerlies.
High cloud with east to southeast winds, the odd spit possible
overnight.

Marlborough
Cloudy with patchy rain or drizzle, easterlies tend southerly
overnight.

Canterbury
Cloudy with periods of rain and south to southwesterly winds.

West Coast
Cloudy with some rain now and then north of about Hokitika, southeasterly
winds. About Fiordland expect clear skies.

Coastal Otago
Cloudy with southerly breezes, the odd drizzle patch may move in later this
evening.

Central Otago
Cloudy spells with light south to southeasterly winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 5-6
Southland
A few clear spells about early this evening however cloud then rolling back
in with south to southeasterly winds. There may even be some late drizzle for a
time.

Blowing like anything here in Paekok, a strong SW with ESE gusts UGH. Gusting stronger than Wellington and Paraparaumu even. No rain and pressure keeps going up. These anticyclones suck to the maximum. I so hope we don’t get them like this in winter as they give us bone chillingly cold wind and drainage then, especially an SE one. 🙁
