!BREAKING NEWS

1639 lightning strikes have been recorded in the past 60 minutes around the North Island according the Radio Network’s Weather Watch Centre.  Head weather analyst Philip Duncan says heavy rain and thunderstorms are currently moving across Auckland, Waikato, Coromandel and Bay of Plenty and the thunderstorms are growing quickly.
“Flooding is highly likely across those four regions tonight and residents and motorists should be on high alert”.
Heavy rain is expected to ease by morning.
The storms are being caused by a Tasman Sea low that’s caused the mixing of tropical and Antarctic air masses.
