This Labour Weekend a large low pressure zone is going to bring rain, wind and a temperature drop with severe weather risks in both main islands, but especially the South Island on Saturday.
Not all regions have severe weather and some, like those in the eastern North Island around Hawke’s Bay for example, may not notice too much going on. But in other regions heavy rain, severe gales, cold weather and even snow on the ranges is forecast.
Slips, flooding, power outages and dangerous travel conditions may be especially possible around the South Island.
Main Highlights:
🌀This low is developing over the top of the South Island this weekend – that means there is some instability and that can sometimes break forecasts (so keep up to date with your forecasts – our data is updated hourly).
☔️If rain matters to you then track it in real time this weekend on the Live Rain Radar.
📡Canterbury – please note MetService has begun work to replace the Canterbury Radar. The radar will be offline until mid-December while it is replaced and upgraded. Nearby radars will provide partial coverage, but detection will be significantly reduced for Canterbury. Read more here from MetService on this.
