It’s lunchtime in New Zealand and places are still below or near freezing

After a very cold start to the day in the South Island it’s not surprising that at 12 Noon a number of places are still below zero or hovering near the freezing mark.

Queenstown is hovering between 0 and 4 degrees. Clyde has 2 degrees and Alexandra has warmed up from -10 at 7:30am to 3 degrees at lunchtime.

Dunedin has a big variety, between 2 degrees and 8 degrees as of 12 noon, depending on if you have a breeze or not.

Around Tekapo and some places are still recording -3 with a string of -2s through the mountains there.

At 11am Arthur’s Pass was still at -6 but in the past hour it’s warmed up to -1.

Much of Canterbury is between 4 and 10 degrees and further north Hanmer Springs has 3 degrees.

Wellington is also cold, with lunchtime temperatures ranging from 5 to 8 degrees for the most part.

Masterton has +6.

Napier and Taupo both have +7.

Waiouru is on 0 degrees.

Most other places are closer to 10 degrees or in the low double digits.
