It may have (just) missed most of NZ, but Cody is no ‘fizzer’

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Cody looks stunning on the wind maps this morning. With a diameter of around 1100km it’s a big system (NZ is about 1600km north to south).

Cody will be crossing over the Chatham Islands today with wind and rain – but for the Chathams it will likely be just another day at the office.

Cody’s big swells will today be peaking in some eastern North Island beaches (especially between East Cape and Wairarapa). It’s recommended that people avoid swimming today in these areas due to extra strong rips, currents and rogue waves.
