A ridge for the North Island today while northeasterlies increase further south. A front pushes onto the country overnight from the west. This front slowly passes from west to east over New Zealand during Thursday meanwhile a low follows in behind which hangs around the North Island on Friday with a ridge developing further south.
Wednesday
Blue – Potential for a light frost to start the day about some inland areas in the morning.
Thursday
Blue – As a front moves over New Zealand from the west on Thursday there may be some heavy rain about Tasman in the morning. Chance of a few heavy showers in other areas also then overnight a trough passing over Waikato through to Northland brings heavy showers with a risk of thunderstorms and hail.
Friday
Morning heavy showers about Northland through to the Waikato ease. Rain about the lower North Island may be heavy, easing before midday. About Gisborne during the afternoon there may be heavy showers with a risk of thunder / hail then easing in the evening.
