A northwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand on Tuesday, a front within this flow pushes northwards over the South Island during the day.

Sunny areas for the upper North Island, high cloud increases from afternoon for most of these regions. Skies becoming a little cloudier during the morning about the Waikato with the risk of an overnight shower. Northwesterly winds.

Mostly cloudy with the risk of a shower about the lower North Island in the west, mainly later in the day. West to northwesterly winds, breezy for coastal areas.

Sunny areas and increasing high cloud along the east coast, afternoon northwesterly winds. Wellington sees mostly cloudy skies, chance of an afternoon shower otherwise mainly dry. Gusty northwesterly winds.

Plenty of high cloud about Marlborough and Nelson, chance spot of rain late afternoon otherwise mainly dry. North to northwesterly winds.

Sunny areas and some high cloud for Canterbuy, light northwesterly winds change southerly for a brief time in the evening. Overnight cloud thickens with a shower or two.

Rain about South Westland, a few showers further north. Rain pushes into North Westland during the morning then easing in the afternoon as northerlies change southwest. A westerly change in the morning about Southland brings cloudy periods, risk of the odd shower also but expect plenty of dry weather too. Otago sees a mix of sun and cloud as light northerlies change southwest in the afternoon. Chance of an evening shower.

Blue – Heavy form of precipitation.
Purple – Strong winds.
Yellow – Temperatures around the mid 20 degree mark or over.
