A front moves off the upper South Island in the morning then pushing over the North Island for the rest of the day, winds strong from the north then easing later on. The rest of the South Island has northwesterlies although about southeastern parts of the South Island a southerly airflow gradually develops.

For the upper North Island expect cloudy skies with areas of rain, heavy at times Auckland southwards then easing later in the evening. Winds brisk from the north, strong about some coastal areas then easing overnight.

The lower North Island sees rain in the west, heavy about Taranaki then easing in the evening. Thick high cloud in the east with scattered rain spreading from the west at times. Winds gusty from the northwest, strong through Cook Strait with winds up to gale force.

Areas of heavy rain for the west and upper South Island, especially about Nelson and Marlborough with a chance of thunderstorms then easing around midday. Heavy showers may continue at times for much of the day for the West Coast.

Mostly sunny for the east coast with northwesterlies and warm temperatures, heavy showers with possible thunderstorms may develop in the afernoon however from Southland through to South Canterbury then easing in the evening.
