A front moves off the upper North Island on Friday afternoon, a west to southwesterly airflow lies over most of the country in behind the front.
Showers clear around midday for the upper North Island as northwesterly winds change southwest, sunny spells increase from afternoon. Showers don’t develop about Northland till late morning however and clear there late afternoon.
For the lower North Island any early cloud clears in the west then expect a mainly sunny day, winds from the west. Any morning spots of rain clear for the east coast then becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon, winds briefly change southwest for a time.
For the South Island, showers along the West Coast clear around midday then sunny spells develop with southwesterly winds. Mainly sunny for much of the day about Nelson and Marlborough.
Canterbury sees a sunny start then winds change southerly around midday before moving around to the east in the afternoon bringing increasing cloud. Showers for Southland, easing from afternoon and clearing in the evening. Otago may be dry at first then a few showers move in by midday as southwesterlies freshen, showers then clear Otago in the evening also.
