> From the WeatherWatch archives

A large anticyclone to the east directs a light easterly quarter airflow over New Zealand today and on Thursday.

Plenty of cloud about the North Island today, there may be a morning shower or drizzle patch for the upper North Island. In the afternoon the odd isolated shower may develop also. Sunny spells for most of the South Island, isolated showers possible in the afternoon about inland areas, then clearing in the evening.

A shower or two brushes eastern and northeastern coastal parts of the North Island on Thursday, a mix of sun and cloud elsewhere. Morning cloud then sunny areas for most of the South Island, chance of an isolated shower in the afternoon about inland Canterbury and Buller then clearing in the evening.
