A southeasterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, strong about the upper North Island. Northland should see some heavy rain. An anticyclone lies over the South Island on Thursday, southeasterlies gradually eases over the North Island.

Rain for Northland may be heavy today, winds strong from the southeast especially offshore. Showers for northern Auckland, drier further south. The east coast has a cloudy day with patchy rain or drizzle, drier out west with cloudy areas and occasional sun.

Mostly cloudy for the South Island’s east coast, some drizzle possible also. Areas of sun break through in the afternoon for Southland and Otago.

Heavy rain eases about Northland on Thursday morning to showers. Drizzle or light showers for much of the day along the east coast, drier out west with a mix of sun and cloud. For the South Island conditions are mostly sunny, there may be a few spots of morning cloud in the east.
