A ridge of high pressure spreads onto the South Island today, southerlies further north. This ridge holds in place over the South Island on Wednesday, southerlies continue further north but slowly ease.

Sunny for the western North Island today, morning cloud and the risk of a shower about Northland clears. A few showers at times for much of the day from Wellington through to Gisborne in the east, showers clear Wellington by evening. Sunny for most of the South Island, a few morning showers about Banks Peninsula clear. A few morning showers about Southland then clearing, the odd shower pushes into Fiordland (especially in the south) during the day.

Sunny for the western North Island on Wednesday, showers in the east especially about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne. Mostly sunny for a majority of the South Island.

now it works out we need 200 a month just to get average rainfall for the year
