A ridge lies over the North Island today meanwhile a front pushes northwards over the South Island bringing in a southwest change. This front moves over the North Island on Wednesday, a period of calm further south before another front moves into Southland from afternoon.
Sunny areas and high cloud for most of the North Island today, a shower or two for northern Northland. Showers move into Taranaki / Kapiti in the evening. Heavy rain for North Westland eases from the south afternoon onwards as a southwest change pushes through. Sunny areas and some high cloud in the east. Expect showers about the far south with a southwest change.
A band of rain / showers moves from west to east over the North Island on Wednesday with the passage of a front, clearing by evening for most although perhaps not clearing the likes of Bay Of Plenty / East Cape till overnight. The odd shower starts to move into the West Coast of the South Island from afternoon. Morning cloud may bring some drizzle in the east then afternoon sunny spells break through. Showers move into Southland during the afternoon, Otago in the evening then Canterbury overnight (mainly coastal) as another southwest change pushes through.
