A cold front pushes northwards over the South Island on Saturday then onto the western North Island overnight, strong northwesterlies ahead of this change then changing Sou’West in behind. This front moves over the remainder of the North Island on Sunday meanwhile a northwest flow builds once again further south.
Mostly cloudy for the western North Island on Saturday, there may be a few areas of sun in the morning about Northland through to Bay Of Plenty. Expect the odd patchy shower for the lower western North Island then turning to rain overnight, high cloud in the east. Heavy rain moves northwards along the West Coast of the South Island during the day, torrential falls and thunderstorms possible in the morning about South Westland. High cloud in the east with rain about Southland spreading into Otago during the morning, showers move into Canterbury in the evening especially near the coast.
A period of rain or showers sweeps over the North Island on Sunday moving in a west to east fashion, some eastern areas may be dry in the morning with some sun before rain moves in. Out west areas of sun make an appearance more so from afternoon. Heavy rain starts to push into South Westland from afternoon then moves northwards in the evening, mainly sunny for the eastern South Island with some high cloud. A dry morning for Southland then rain or showers develops in the afternoon.
