Hurricane Ike’s incredible damage has hardly made the headlines here in NZ, so we thought we’d share just a few stats on this huge storm as Texas continues the major clean up.
- It’s amazing but 2 million people are still majorly affected by Ike , facing power, water and shelter problems – that’s half of New Zealand’s population.
- 60 people were killed in the United States.
- Entire suburbs have been completely wiped out, some over a kilometre inland.
- The cost is currently estimated at a staggering 25 billion New Zealand dollars.

The strangest thing is that house left standing all alone, while around it, nothing remains.

I know! I always thought it would make a good ad for the builder! "We built this home – so trust us to build your next home". haha!
But as a colleague pointed out to me, they might’ve built every other house in that street too!
