A cold front moves over the North Island today bringing in a southwest change, then behind this front is a trough bringing a chance of isolated heavy showers and some hail to Marlborough and some parts of the lower / eastern North Island this afternoon.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly cloudy, a few showers. Showers may become heavy with an isolated rumble of thunder around midday as northwesterlies change southwest then clearing in the afternoon with sunny areas increasing.
Highs: 15-16
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning rain, chance of an isolated heavy fall and a rumble of thunder then easing to a few showers as northwesterlies change southwest. Sunny spells break through from afternoon, becoming dry by evening. Kapiti and perhaps Manawatu may see a period of heavy showers and hail in the afternoon, clearing evening.

Eastern North Island
High cloud, a few spits of rain in the morning then sun breaks through. Early afternoon southwesterlies push through Wairarapa bringing showers (possibly heavy with a chance of hail), clearing evening. A few isolated heavy showers may push into Hawkes Bay and Gisborne late afternoon / evening with southwesterlies.

Wellington
Early rain clears, some sun may break through otherwise mostly cloudy. Afternoon showers move in as northwesterlies change to the south, showers may be heavy with a risk of hail then clearing evening.

Marlborough & Nelson
Early spits of rain clear then some sun breaks through, gusty northwesterlies ease. Afternoon southerlies for Marlborough bring isolated showers, possibly heavy with a risk of small hail, clearing evening.

Canterbury
Morning showers clear then sunny areas develop, there may be a few further isolated showers for a time early afternoon about North Canterbury then clearing away. Southwesterlies die out around midday.
Highs: 12-14
West Coast
Showers first thing may be heavy with a chance of thunder / hail then some sun breaks through, the odd shower may linger north of Greymouth from afternoon. Later in the evening or overnight cloud thickens with showers moving back in for all. Southwesterlies tend northwest at night.

Southland & Otago
Morning cloud clears then mostly sunny, perhaps a clearing coastal shower for Southland in the morning. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-13
