A developing low pressure system and associated front moves towards the west coast of the North Island today while a front moves up the South Island from this morning. For many the day will start out dry apart from the far south and far north, but as it wears on each system respectively in the north and south will slowly close in bringing damp weather with them.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato, CNI & BOP
Areas of rain move into Northland in the morning with northerly winds, sunny periods to start further south with lighter winds. Rain moves into the Auckland area late afternoon then further south in the evening. Winds about the Waikato and further south tend more northeasterly. Meanwhile in the evening rain eases back to the odd shower about Northland.

Eastern North Island
Cloudy spells with some sun at times, light southerlies tend more southeast in the afternoon at which point cloud increases. Evening drizzle turns to rain at night especially about Wairarapa, about Gisborne precipitation may remain in the form of drizzle at night.
Highs: 18-19

Wellington & Western North Island
A few morning sunny spells then becoming mostly cloudy in the afternoon as southeasterlies pick up. Drizzle develops in the evening with some rain overnight.
Highs: 16-18

Nelson
Mostly cloudy with light winds, some brief rain possible at times otherwise mainly dry conditions. From evening drizzle sets in turning to rain overnight, easterlies.
Highs: 16-17

Canterbury & Marlborough
Chance of a few morning sunny spells then becoming cloudy with south to southeasterly breezes. The odd drizzle patch from evening especially about inland hills and ranges then rain developing overnight for most.
Highs: 14-16

West Coast
Mostly cloudy skies for North Westland with northeast breezes, sunny with some high cloud further south. Some rain moves in north of Greymouth in the evening.
Highs: 17-18

Southland & Otago
Showers develop in the morning about Southland then from midday for Otago. Expect mostly cloudy skies and a southerly wind change moving north with the showers.
Highs: 12-13
