A front scoots past the lower South Island today delivering a period of showers. Dry for most other places with southwesterly winds in the west and northeasterlies out east. There is the chance however that inland ranges in the South Island may experience a few afternoon showers due to converging winds, mainly from inland Marlborough through to North Otago.

Upper North Island

A mix of sunny and cloudy areas with southwest breezes a bit brisk at times about Auckland. Bay Of Plenty mainly in the east should experience lighter winds. Northeasterlies in Gisborne with mostly sunny weather, the odd isolated shower about the ranges in the afternoon is possible however.
HIGHS: 23-26

Lower North Island

Sunny and cloudy periods with southwest breezes, chance of a brief light shower in the morning otherwise expect mostly dry weather. Southerly breezes about Wellington with sunny areas and some cloud. Mostly sunny about Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay with afternoon sea breezes, chance of an isolated shower about the Hawkes Bay ranges in the afternoon.

Upper South Island

Mostly sunny with some cloud in the east, east to northeast breezes. In the afternoon isolated showers may develop in inland areas especially about the foothills and ranges running down the centre of the island.
HIGHS: 18-24

Lower South Island

Cloudy with the odd shower clearing in the morning inland and near the Otago coast, about Southland showers may not clear till afternoon at which point a few sunny areas sneak through. Winds will generally be west to southwest. In the afternoon about North Otago there is the chance of an isolated shower or two and winds tending northeast there.
HIGHS: 17-22

Warmest – East of the North Island and the Bay Of Plenty

Windiest – Southland later in the evening, westerlies become strong

Sunniest – Nelson, Bay Of Plenty and eastern parts of the North Island

Wettest – Southland for general showers or rain however inland parts of the South Island may receive a few isolated heavy afternoon showers
