A cold front pushes northwards over the South Island today, weakening as it goes. A ridge lies over the North Island with the aforementioned front arriving about the lower North Island overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Areas of morning cloud break to mostly sunny weather, some high cloud from evening. Light winds then afternoon sea breezes for most.
Highs: 24-29

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy areas and occasional sun, may even be a light shower in the morning about Taranaki and Kapiti. Cloud starts to break more from afternoon with areas of sun more likely, overnight northwesterly winds change southerly bringing some rain or showers for most.
Highs: 22-26

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with light winds tending northwest about Wairarapa, afternoon east to northeasterly winds for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.
Highs: 28-33

Wellington
Mostly cloudy with blustery northerlies, a late evening or overnight fresh Southerly change brings some rain.
High: 22-23

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud for Marlborough, some morning sun for Nelson then lower level cloud thickens. Late evening blustery northwest winds change cooler southerly bringing a few showers.
Highs: 26-30

Canterbury
Thickening high cloud, northwesterly winds blustery or strong for inland areas. A fresh south to southwest change pushes northwards during the afternoon, strong about the coast. This change will bring a period of rain then showers which clears evening. About South Canterbury a period of showers may reinvigorate in the evening the clear overnight.
Highs: 24-28

West Coast
Heavy rain about Fiordland eases and pushes northwards reaching North Westland by midday, showers before rain moves in. Conditions clearing up in the evening as cooler southwest winds push through.
Highs: 20-23

Southland & Otago
Morning rain then sunny spells and the risk of a shower from midday, fresh west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-22
