A front pushes onto the lower South Island this morning then weakens as it moves northwards. A ridge lies over the North Island extending out from an anticyclone in the Tasman Sea.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny spells, cloud thicker at times along western coastlines. Also there may be some low cloud or fog to start the day about the Waikato. Light winds tend southwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 22-23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny with west to northwesterly winds, cloud often frequents Taranaki however.
Highs: 18-21

Eastern North Island
Any morning cloud clears then mainly sunny with light north to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 23-26

Wellington
A mix of sun and cloud with breezy Northerly winds.
High: 19

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny with some evening high cloud, north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 22-26

Canterbury
Sunny areas and thickening high cloud, northwesterly winds increase becoming gusty for inland areas. An evening southwest change moves into South Canterbury bringing some rain, this southwest change weakens by the time it reaches about Banks Peninsula later in the evening at which point only some drizzle may remain.
Highs: 21-24

West Coast
Rain about Fiordland with heavy falls possible, clearing later in the evening or overnight. Further north expect increasing cloud, the odd shower from afternoon then evening or overnight rain. Winds from the northwest.
Highs: 16-19

Southland & Otago
Rain develops in the morning about Southland with a cool southwest change, pushing into Otago around midday. Rain clearing early evening about Southland then a tad later for Otago.
Highs: 14-21
