A weak ridge pushes in today while a low becomes organised and deepens during the day just north / northeast of the North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Plenty of high cloud with areas of sun breaking through at times. Showers for Northland from midday. Overnight or more towards dawn on Saturday some heavy rain may start to clip eastern Northland and the Coromandel. Southerly winds, tending a little more southeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 17-20

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Risk of a morning shower, cloud breaks to some sun in the afternoon. Southeasterly winds freshen especially overnight about coastal Taranaki.
Highs: 16-19

Eastern North Island
Cloud about the Wairarapa with a risk of drizzle in the morning, spreading further northwards during the afternoon as south to southeasterly winds freshen. Overnight or more towards dawn on Saturday rain with a chance of heavy falls moves in Gisborne northwards.
Highs: 15-18

Wellington
South to southeasterly winds freshen this morning bringing the risk of a shower, some sun later in the day.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson
Cloudy areas with east to southeasterly winds, mainly dry although there may be a shower later in the day.
Highs: 14-16

Canterbury
Any morning showers clear then sunny spells develop, southwesterly winds tend east to northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 13-15

West Coast
A mix of sun and cloud with southwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-16

Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy with a few showers about Southland, clearing at night. Otago has cloudy areas and occasional sun, may be a shower afternoon / evening. West to southwesterly winds, fresh about coastal areas.
Highs: 12-14
