A weak area of low pressure including a couple of frontal zones sits over the North Island today while a northeasterly airflow lies over the South Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Rain, possibly heavy with thunderstorms then easing later in the afternoon or evening. Northeasterly winds.

Highs: 23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Rain with heavy falls possible, breezy Easterly winds.

Highs: 21-22

Eastern North Island

Rain, heavy at times with breezy Easterly winds.

Highs: 20-23

Wellington

Cloudy with drizzle from morning then rain after midday, Easterlies freshen.

High: 18

Marlborough & Nelson

Cloudy with the odd drizzle patch then evening rain (rain may be heavy). Southeasterly winds freshen.

High: 21-23

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy, some drizzle possible from afternoon. Freshening easterly winds.

High: 20

West Coast

Mainly sunny weather, some high cloud spreads down from the north later in the day. Some overnight rain possible about Buller. Light winds.

Highs: 23-26

Southland & Otago

Mainly sunny weather, some cloud at times about coastal Otago. East to northeasterly winds.

Highs: 19-25
