A front pushes northwards over the South Island today with a cold southwest change following in behind, this front moves over the North Island later in the evening / overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny spells, a few showers later in the evening / overnight as West to northwest winds change southwesterly.
Highs: 20-22

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy areas and occasional sun, a few evening showers. West to northwesterly winds freshen after midday.
Highs: 17-19

Eastern North Island

Mainly sunny weather with light winds tending northwesterly in the afternoon, some cloud may bring a spot of rain about the Wairarapa in the evening then further north overnight.
Highs: 21-24

Wellington

Sunny spells and increasing cloud, evening showers. Northwesterly winds strengthen then change southerly overnight.
High: 16

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny with some high cloud from afternoon, some rain late afternoon / evening especially about Nelson (only a few spots may reach coastal Marlborough). Northwesterly winds becoming gusty from afternoon then changing southwest overnight.
Highs: 18-22

Canterbury

Sunny areas and some developing high cloud, northwesterly winds change southwest (gusty about the coast) late afternoon with showers
High: 22

West Coast

Rain with heavy falls spreading into North Westland during the morning, then easing to showers during the afternoon as northerlies change westerly.
High: 15

Southland & Otago

Rain about Southland eases to showers around midday, Otago may be dry first thing then rain pushes in during the morning before easing back to showers in the afternoon. Breezy cool southwesterly winds.
Highs: 12-14
