A southerly airflow gradually eases over the South Island today however it still has the North Island in its sights bringing a potentially unstable change.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny spells, late afternoon / evening showers about the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty may become heavy with a chance of thunderstorms and hail then easing overnight. A few showers may reach Auckland northwards later in the evening. Breezy southwesterly winds change southerly later in the evening.
Highs: 17-20

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Showers develop in the morning as southerly winds freshen, showers clear in the evening. Showers may be heavy about northern parts of Taranaki and northern parts of the Central North Island in the afternoon before easing overnight. South to southeasterly winds becoming strong in the afternoon about Taranaki then easing later on.
Highs: 15-16

Eastern North Island

Showers about Wairarapa spread further north around midday, chance of a few heavy falls in the afternoon about the ranges of Hawkes Bay and Gisborne then easing overnight. Southerly winds freshen.
Highs: 15-17

Wellington

Showers, clearing later in the evening or overnight. brisk to strong southerly winds.
High: 12

Marlborough & Nelson

Showers clear in the afternoon with cloud breaking away in the evening, cool south to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 15-16

Canterbury

Morning showers clear although there is the chance of an isolated shower or two till evening. Cloud breaks to afternoon sunny spells, southwesterly winds die out later in the evening.
High: 12

West Coast

Mainly sunny weather with light southeasterlies tending southwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 16-17

Southland & Otago

Mainly sunny weather after a light frost inland and about Southland, some morning cloud for coastal Otago breaks away. Light east to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 12-17
