A front moves off the northeast of the North Island this morning meanwhile another front moves onto the lower North Island this morning then following northwards during the afternoon. The South Island sits under a strong northwesterly airflow, wet in the west while it’s sunnier out east.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas with northwesterly winds, some morning rain clears away from the Bay Of Plenty. In the afternoon northwesterly winds tend more westerly bringing some cloud and a few showers, showers more likely Auckland southwards while Northland remains fairly dry. Showers mostly clearing in the evening.
Highs: 26-27

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Some morning rain (possibly heavy with thunderstorms about Taranaki) then clearing around midday, sunny areas break through in the afternoon. Breezy west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 23

Eastern North Island

Sunny in the morning (although some morning rain clears Gisborne) then a front moves through around midday bringing a few showers which then promptly clear with sun breaking through again. Breezy northwesterly winds before the front then changing westerly.
Highs: 27-28

Wellington

Rain eases to showers then clearing around midday at which point sunny areas increase, gusty Nor’West winds ease later on.
High: 22

Marlborough & Nelson

Any early rain clears then mainly sunny conditions move in, gusty north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 22-24

Canterbury

Mostly sunny with morning high cloud clearing away. Gusty northwesterly winds, strong at times especially inland during the afternoon.
High: 26

West Coast

Areas of rain, easing to showers in the afternoon and mostly clearing overnight. Breezy west to northwest winds.
Highs: 19-20

Southland & Otago

Any early showers clear otherwise expect cloudy areas and perhaps some sun now and then, sun more likely afternoon on wards especially inland. Gusty west to northwesterly winds, perhaps changing southwest in the afternoon about coastal Otago.
Highs: 17-22
