Brisk northeasterly winds lie over New Zealand today with a front moving through from west to east, heavy rain for some western regions today with thunderstorms possible about Northland and Auckland. Out east expect plenty of thick high cloud, a few spots of rain spread through from the west mainly in the evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy with the chance of a shower, rain moves through Northland this morning then moving southwards as a rain band reaching the other regions during the afternoon. A chance of heavy falls in this rain band especially about the Bay Of Plenty in the evening. Thunderstorms possible also mainly about Northland this morning then Auckland this afternoon. Breezy northeasterly winds.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy with rain from afternoon then easing overnight, brisk northeasterly winds.
Highs: 11-15

Eastern North Island

Mostly cloudy with spots of rain later in the evening, breezy northeasterly winds.
Highs: 14-15

Wellington

Cloudy with patchy rain moving in during the afternoon, northeasterly winds.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson

Cloudy with areas of rain, becoming heavy about Nelson late afternoon. Marlborough may be dry to start in the morning. Breezy northeasterly winds.
High: 13

Canterbury

Cloudy with breezy northeasterly winds, the odd spot or spell of rain at times especially evening.
High: 13

West Coast

Cloudy with rain, heavy at times especially about South Westland during the morning and further north into the afternoon. Breezy northeasterlies easing evening.

Southland & Otago

Thick high cloud with northeasterly winds, easing from afternoon. A few spots of rain mainly in the morning.
Highs: 10-13
