A ridge of high pressure brings mainly settled conditions today after any morning showers clear away in the north and east. A low deepening to the northeast of the North Island is something to watch however especially for Saturday as it looks to bring some heavy rain to upper North Island regions.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Morning sunny areas with breezy southwesterly winds after any early showers clear, high cloud moves in from the north during the afternoon and evening with winds easing. For Northland expect a mostly cloudy day, rain moves in later in the evening then becomes heavy overnight with easterly winds.
Highs: 16-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Becoming mostly sunny in the morning, southerlies ease. High cloud moves in during the afternoon and evening from the north.
Highs: 13-15

Eastern North Island

Early showers clear then sunny areas increase, sunny weather by midday then high cloud moves in during the evening. Cold southwesterlies ease in the afternoon.
Highs: 13-14

Wellington

Sunny areas and some cloud, breezy southerlies dying away evening.
High: 12

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny with southerlies dying away in the morning, some high cloud moves in later in the evening.
Highs: 13-15

Canterbury

Sunny with southwesterlies dying out around midday.
Highs: 11-12

West Coast

Sunny with light winds, some cloud towards evening.
Highs: 13-14

Southland & Otago

Cloudy areas about the Southland coast with gusty northwesterly winds, the odd brief shower at times. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Widespread showers develop overnight.
Highs: 9-10
