A northwesterly airflow lies over the country today, meanwhile a front moves onto the lower South Island this morning then moves northwards to lie across the upper South Island later this evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy periods and a few sunny spells from time to time, sunny areas more frequent about the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty with cloud not building there till late afternoon or evening. Overnight showers for the Waikato. Westerly winds for all.
Highs: 18-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Becoming mostly cloudy during the morning in the west with sunny areas and
some cloud for the Central North Island, becoming cloudy there in the evening
then expect overnight rain for all. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-18

Eastern North Island

A mostly sunny day with some high cloud after midday, light winds in the
morning then afternoon northwesterlies breezy about the Wairarapa. Overnight
spots of rain for the Wairarapa.
Highs: 19-21

Wellington

Mostly cloudy with rain from late evening, northwesterly winds change
southerly overnight.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, north to northwesterly winds. A few
spots of rain move through later in the evening then winds change southerly
overnight with a few showers.
Highs: 18-22

Canterbury

Sunny areas and some increasing high cloud, light winds tending northwest
inland. An evening southwest change brings showers.
High: 19

West Coast

Mostly cloudy, rain for Fiordland in the morning then pushing into North
Westland in the afternoon. Northerly quarter winds then changing southerly
overnight.
Highs: 15-16

Southland & Otago

Cloudy, a few spots of rain develop in the morning then easing to showers
by midday as northwest winds change southwest. Showers may not pick up in
intensity till evening for Central Otago. Showers then clear overnight for
all.
Highs: 13-14
