A narrow ridge of high pressure lies over the North Island today while a front makes its way onto the lower South Island around midday then gradually pushes northwards.
Auckland & Northland
Cloudy areas and a few sunny spells, the odd shower possible mainly afternoon. East to southeaterly winds.

Bay Of Plenty
Sunny areas and some cloud, east to northeast winds.
High: 25
Western North Island (including Waikato)
Sunny areas and some cloud about, light winds. A few isolated showers
possible especially late afternoon / evening inland.
Highs: 23-26
Eastern North Island
Any early cloud clears to mostly sunny weather Hawkes Bay southwards, light
northeasterly winds. Chance of an isolated shower about the Wairarapa late
afternoon / evening. Overnight southerlies move in. Gisborne has cloudier skies
with the odd light shower possible during the day, easterly winds.
Sunny areas and some cloud, northwesterly winds build from late morning. A
few spots of rain possible in the evening otherwise dry. Overnight winds change
southerly.

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny with some high cloud from afternoon, north to northwesterly
winds develop around midday. Later in the evening southerly winds push in with
some cloud and the risk of a shower.
Mostly sunny with light northeasterlies near the coast, winds tend
northwest inland. A late afternoon or evening southerly change brings a few
showers, southerlies near the coast south of Banks Peninsula quite strong for a
time as they move in.
Showers about South Westland ease afternoon and clear evening,
southwesterlies develop by midday. For North Westland expect cloudy areas with
light northwesterlies in the morning tending southwest later in the afternoon,
mainly dry with only the risk of a PM shower.

Southland & Otago
Sunny areas and some high cloud, light northwesterlies. A cool southwest
change around late morning or early afternoon brings showers which clear mid to
late afternoon. Cloud breaks away in the evening with winds easing.
Highs: 17-21
