An anticyclone sits in the Tasman Sea today with a west to southwest airflow lying over the country, the weather is mainly settled for much of the country although a weakening front moving onto the lower South Island this morning brings some cloud and a few showers.

Northland
Sunny areas and a few clouds about, light southwesterlies. Along the east
coast a sea breeze develops this afternoon then eases away in the evening.

Auckland

Mostly sunny with light southwesterlies, southwesterlies picking up a
little this afternoon with cloud becoming slightly more frequent.
High: 23

Bay Of Plenty

Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells, northeasterly winds.
High: 23

Waikato

Sunny areas and some cloud, light winds tend southwest this
afternoon.
High: 24

Central North Island

Periods of cloud, sunny breaks at times too. Light westerlies.
High: 23

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny weather with northeasterly winds, some evening high
cloud.
Highs: 23-24

Western North Island

Mostly sunny with light winds this morning, winds tend more westerly this
afternoon.
Highs: 21-23

Wellington
Mostly sunny
with northerly winds.

Nelson

Mostly sunny with light north to northwesterly winds this afternoon.
Highs: 23-24

Marlborough

Mostly sunny with some high cloud possible, light winds tend northeast this
afternoon.
High: 26

Canterbury

Mostly sunny with some high cloud, light winds tending WNW inland. Mid to
late afternoon southerlies push into South / Mid Canterbury bringing some cloud
and the chance of a shower / drizzle patch, mainly inland. For North Canterbury
winds change southerly in the evening with some increasing cloud. Overnight
drizzle possible.

West Coast

Some rain about Fiordland this morning eases to showers this afternoon then
clearing. Showers move into some parts of South Westland this afternoon however
they will ease further clearing evening. West to northwest winds tend southwest
during the day. About North Westland expect periods of cloud and a few sunny
areas, cloud thickens late afternoon for a time, chance of an evening shower
otherwise dry.

Coastal Otago

Thick high cloud at first, a southwest change towards midday brings a few
showers which clear by evening.
High: 19

Central Otago

High cloud this morning, a few showers west of the Southern Lakes area and
dry further east. Northwesterly winds. Skies clearing up in the afternoon as
winds tend southwest, there could be a brief isolated shower this afternoon for
some otherwise mainly dry.
Highs: 22-23

Southland

Morning showers with winds changing southwest this morning, showers clear
by midday with cloud breaking mid to late afternoon.
Highs: 17
