A west to southwesterly airflow lies over the country today, most regions see showers for a time, the east coast of the North Island remains mostly dry till later this evening.

Auckland & Northland
Patchy showers with northwesterly winds, west to southwest winds freshen late afternoon with showers easing – perhaps a few sunny spells breaking though.
Highs: 18-20

Bay Of Plenty

The odd shower then some rain for a time around midday. Northwesterlies
change westerly late afternoon and showers clear evening.
High: 19

Waikato & Central North Island

Showers develop early in the morning, chance of a heavy fall then easing
mid afternoon onwards and clearing evening. Northwesterly winds tend west to
southwest late afternoon.
Highs: 16-17

Eastern North Island

High cloud in the morning with northwesterly winds, a few showers possible
in the afternoon. Showers more likely about the Wairarapa as southerly winds
move in late afternoon, a higher risk of showers pushes into coastal Hawkes Bay
in the evening.
Highs: 21-22

Western North Island

Spells of rain with west to northwest winds, chance of a thunderstorm
afternoon onwards.
High: 18

Wellington

Morning sunny areas with northerly winds, showers develop mid afternoon
possibly heavy with thunderstorms as winds tend southerly. Showers ease later in
the evening.
High: 17

Nelson

Mostly sunny in the morning with light winds, cloud builds around midday. A
few isolated showers possible in the afternoon mainly inland then easing later
in the evening / clearing overnight.
High: 18

Marlborough

Mostly sunny in the morning with light winds, southerlies freshen from mid
afternoon with showers develop. Showers could be heavy with thunderstorms and
hail then easing overnight.
Highs: 19-20

Canterbury

Some morning rain near the coast, light winds. Southerlies freshen in this
afternoon with showers again possibly heavy. A risk of thunderstorms and hail
Banks Peninsula northwards then easing later in the evening / overnight.
High: 15

West Coast

Sunny spells with southwesterlies freshening towards midday, chance of an
isolated shower about (especially Hokitika northwards) then clearing
evening.
High: 14

Coastal Otago

Showers develop towards midday (a risk of small hail) then clear by
evening, fresh cool southwesterlies.

Central Otago

Occasional showers, some small hail possible then clearing late afternoon
with sunny spells increasing. Cool southwesterlies.

Southland

Morning showers, briefly heavy at times with hail, easing afternoon and
clearing by evening. Cool southwesterlies tend northwest overnight.
High: 11
