A west to southwest airflow lies over the country today, strong about some North Island regions especially in the west. Most places see showers for a time although the east coast of the North Island remains mainly dry for the majority of the day.

Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells, breezy westerlies ease later in the day. A few overnight showers possible.

Auckland

Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells, gusty westerlies ease later in the
day. A few overnight showers.
High: 18

Bay Of Plenty

Increasing cloud from morning with freshening westerly winds, a few brief
afternoon showers possible otherwise dry.
High: 19

Central North Island & Waikato

Scattered showers develop in the morning, westerly winds freshen. Showers
clear in the evening. Skies mostly cloudy during the day although there is the
chance of a few sunny spells about.
Highs: 17-18

Eastern North Island

Thickening high cloud with breezy westerlies, winds tend southwest late
afternoon / evening with the chance of a shower otherwise mainly dry.
Highs: 21-22

Western North Island

Some morning rain moves in then eases to showers around midday, showers
clear evening. Gusty westerlies.
High: 17

Wellington

Periods of cloud with brisk to strong northwesterlies, chance of a shower
in the morning. Winds ease during the afternoon.
High: 17

Nelson

Early morning showers clear then becoming mostly sunny, southwesterly winds
ease.
High: 20

Marlborough

Early cloud clears to a mostly sunny day, southwesterlies freshen in the
morning then die away.
Highs: 20-21

Canterbury

Winds change southerly in the morning with increasing cloud, a few showers
about South Canterbury in the morning then further north towards midday,
clearing in the evening.

West Coast

Morning rain eases to showers then clears, sunny spells then increase with
cool southwesterlies easing later in the day.

Coastal Otago

Remaining morning showers clear then expect increasing sunny spells, cool
west to southwest winds.

Morning showers clearing then expect sunny spells with westerly
winds.
Highs: 12-13

Southland

Early showers clear then expect sunny spells with brisk westerlies, a few
more showers possible at times from midday.
Highs: 12-13
