A front clears away from the North Island this morning with early rain easing to showers for most. A moderate to strong northwesterly airflow covers much of the country, this afternoon a southwest change works its way into coastal Otago bringing showers some of which could be heavy with thunderstorms.

Showers as northwesterlies change gusty westerly, sunny breaks at times.

Auckland

Showers, some heavy, long dry spells this morning. Northwesterlies change gusty westerly by midday. Sunny spells at times. Isolated thunderstorms possible this afternoon.

Bay Of Plenty

Morning rain eases to showers which mostly clear in the afternoon, sunny
spells break through after midday. Northwesterlies change gusty westerly
PM.

Central North Island & Waikato

Showers could be heavy with thunderstorms in
the morning about the Waikato. Breezy northwesterlies.
Highs: 14-17

Eastern North Island

Early rain clears then mostly sunny with gusty northwesterly winds.

Taranaki

Showers, some possibly heavy with gusty west to northwest winds.

Western North Island

Periods of cloud with occasional showers, northwesterlies freshen in the
morning.

Wellington

Morning rain eases then clears, sunny spells for the afternoon with strong
northwesterlies possibly gusting to gale force at times.

Early rain eases to the odd shower which mostly clears by midday, sunny
spells from mid morning. Breezy northwesterly winds.

Early rain clears to mostly sunny weather, gusty northwesterly winds.

West Coast

Morning rain possibly heavy with thunderstorms then easing to showers,
breezy west to northwest winds.

Coastal Otago

Sunny areas and some high cloud with light winds, mid afternoon winds
change southwest with showers possibly heavy with thunderstorms then clearing
later in the evening.

Central Otago

Sunny areas and some high cloud with northerly winds, spells of rain at
times west of the Southern Lakes area. Mid afternoon winds tend gusty westerly
with showers which ease in the evening.

Southland

Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, northerlies. Winds change gusty
westerly around midday with showers (possibly heavy) which ease in the
evening.
