A strong northwesterly airflow continues over the South Island and lower North Island today, generally wet weather out west and drier in the east.

Northland
Mostly cloudy, the odd brief shower moves in during the afternoon. Northerly winds freshen.
Highs: 19-20

Auckland

A few early sunny spells then becoming mostly cloudy by midday, the odd brief shower moves in during the evening. Northerly winds freshen.
Highs: 18-19

Bay Of Plenty

Mostly cloudy although there may be a few sunny areas about in the morning,
patchy light rain moves in during the evening. Northerly winds.
Highs: 16-17

Waikato & Central North Island

Mostly cloudy although there may be a few sunny areas about in the morning,
patchy light showers move in during the evening. Northerly winds.
Highs: 15-17

Eastern North Island

Sunny with light north to northwesterly winds, freshening later in the
evening.
High: 20

Taranaki

Mostly cloudy with increasing northerlies, the odd light shower possible
then areas of rain move in late afternoon / evening.
Highs: 15-16

Western North Island

Sunny and cloudy spells with northwesterly winds. Chance of a brief spit or
two, mainly early morning then again in the evening.
High: 18

Wellington

Mostly cloudy with strong northwesterlies, a risk of gales at times. The
odd spot of rain or light shower about mainly morning and then again in the
evening.
Highs: 14-15

Nelson

Mostly cloudy with brisk northerlies, the odd brief shower possible.
Showers more likely in the evening.

Marlborough

Areas of high cloud with strong gusty northwesterlies, the odd spot of rain
at times especially evening.

Canterbury

Plenty of high cloud, brisk to strong northerly winds. High cloud decreases
in the evening. The odd brief shower may spread into the foothills at times from
the west, rain about the foothills overnight.

West Coast

Cloudy with brisk to strong northerlies. Periods of rain, becoming heavy
overnight with thunderstorms.

Coastal Otago

Mostly sunny with gusty north to northeasterly winds, some high
cloud.
Highs: 16-17

Central Otago

Areas of high cloud with gusty northwesterly winds, the odd shower at times
west of the Southern Lakes area, dry further east. Later in the evening rain
moves into the Southern Lakes area.
Highs: 13-14

Southland

Mostly sunny with brisk northwesterlies, overnight some rain develops with
winds easing.
Highs: 16-17
