A ridge covers the country today extending out from an anticyclone in the Tasman Sea, this brings mainly settled weather. Still, there is a bit of weather going on around the edges. Showers clearing this morning about the east coast of the North Island while at the other end of the country and approaching front about the far south brings rain later in the day to Fiordland and then Southland overnight.

Morning showers clear then sunny spells increase from midday, southerlies
die out by evening.

Western North Island
Becoming mostly sunny in the morning south of Wanganui with light
southerlies dying out, winds may tend light westerly in the afternoon. About
northern Taranaki expect sunny skies with southerly winds, easing in the
evening.

winds from afternoon.
