A low pressure system brews just to the west of the North Island overnight. Most can expect rain or showers at some point through the night, the lower South Island will mainly see drizzle however. The West Coast is looking fairly dry after some shower north of Westport clear later this evening.

Auckland & Northland
Rain clearing Auckland and easing to the odd shower this evening, showers could still be heavy at times but expect dry spells too. For Northland expect showers at times, one or two could be heavy. Northerly winds.
Lows tonight: 10-11

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Rain, or rain developing this evening which could be heavy. Rain eases to showers overnight as brisk northeasterlies change lighter northerly.
Lows tonight: 7-9

Eastern North Island
Cloud thickening and lowering this evening, rain develops later this evening or overnight with east to northeast winds.
Lows tonight: 8-9

Western North Island
East to northeast winds with cloud thickening, some rain develops this evening then eases to the odd shower overnight. Rain about northern Taranaki eases a little overnight also, gusty northeasterlies there.
Lows tonight: 8-9

Wellington
High cloud thickening and lowering this evening, northerly winds. Rain develops overnight with east to southeasterlies.
Low tonight: 10

Nelson
Cloudy with showers developing this evening, east to northeast winds tend southeast overnight.
Lows tonight: 8-9

Marlborough
Skies becoming cloudy and rain developing this evening, rain may be heavy overnight. Southeasterlies develop.
Low tonight: 8

Canterbury
Some high cloud with light winds tending easterly. Cloud thickens this evening about areas north of Banks Peninsula with drizzle developing around midnight. Some rain is possible by dawn for some parts of North Canterbury. Further south drizzle patches don’t develop till mid way through the night.
Low tonight: 7

West Coast
High cloud with east to southeast winds, brisk at times north of about Greymouth. The odd shower north of Westport clearing this evening.
Low tonight: 8-9

Coastal Otago
Mostly cloudy skies, chance of a drizzle patch. Light southerlies.
Low tonight: 7

Southland & Central Otago
Drizzle patches with southeasterly breezes, drizzle more likely about Southland.
Lows tonight: 3-5
