A mostly westerly flow over New Zealand this afternoon is helping keep temperatures down a bit today. Temperatures this afternoon are mostly between 10 and 13 in the North Island and in the South Island between 1 and 9.
The stunning run of weather over Southland and Otago continues as a high keeps skies clear but the air bitterly cold. Central Otago has struggled to reach mid single digits much of this week.
Showers remain in the North Island, with heavy but brief showers affecting Auckland and Taranaki, Coromandel and Central Plateau.
A cold southerly in the lower North Island has temperatures in the single digits in Hutt Valley and Paraparaumu but Dunedin is the coldest of the top five centres, currently around 5 degrees.
