10 degrees to be shaved off Auckland’s lows this weekend
And just 6 degrees in parts of Auckland this morning…
It’s been a month of very warm weather for Auckland and Christchurch and everyone in between – but that’s about to change this weekend. Although nothing major is on the way, nights will be much cooler – probably most noticeably in the north. TRN’s Head Weather Analyst Philip Duncan says the weekend will be dominated by south west winds. “It’s these south westerlies that will drag up some colder air across the country”. Even east coasters will have their high’s down on this week, although westerlies should mean it won’t be bitterly cold either with high’s in the mid to late teens still possible.
“Basically those who have had extra warm nights, for example Waikato, Auckland and Northland, will feel a big drop”. Mr Duncan says overnight lows this week only dipped into the mid to late teens in Auckland. “Well this weekend we can expect at least 10 degrees shaved off our overnight lows”.
At 6am it was just 6 degrees in western suburbs, a hint that winter is coming, albeit slowly.
As for sky conditions this weekend, the North looks pretty good, could be a shower tomorrow afternoon as a weak cold front moves over but then “peters out”.
The South Island has a number of very weak fronts attacking it which will mean a cloudy day in the north and east on Saturday, then sun and cloud Sunday – showers all weekend in the west and south.
