It’s lunchtime in Christchurch and the temperature in some suburbs is just 2 degrees as cold air is trapped under cloud.
WeatherWatch.co.nz says the high today was supposed to be 9 degrees and while some parts of the city are closer to that, the majority are much colder.
There will be some additional warming up this afternoon. The airport is already 4 degrees (very cold for lunchtime though!) and many may still reach 9 degrees if the sun breaks through.

â¦@MetServiceâ© â¦@WeatherWatchNZâ© this altostratus and cirrostratus frontal cloud sheet has stopped it warming up in Chch post-frost, but with MetS website largely down it’s hard to know what the temp is – can’t be much more than 2-3deg still at midday!! pic.twitter.com/sUxuoQRmFu
