Another wave of smoke from the Australian bush fires is currently crossing the Tasman Sea and will track over the North Island tonight/overnight.
For those with clear skies it may make the near full moon rising tonight or setting tomorrow morning a more orange colour for a time.
The smoke is unlikely to cause any serious problem and is fairly normal to extend over New Zealand and further east for a time when large fires occur in eastern Australia.
Here’s the latest satellite animation showing the smoke (smoke can be seen as thinner ‘see through’ clouds over the Tasman Sea, the main brighter whiter clouds are normal rain clouds. The smoke clouds aren’t see through over eastern Australia the their source, which is why there are health advisories across Australia at the moment).
