It’s a frosty start for both islands this morning – with many regions sitting in the negatives as of 6am, both North and South.
That means there’s the potential for black ice in many places – mainly inland this time, where snow sits on the ground.
Nearer the coast black ice may not be as much of an issue, as there has been a lack of precipitation in coastal areas before nightfall, but black ice can form anywhere it’s frosty and sheltered.
Temperatures for South Island centres as of 6am:
The North Island also got off to an icy start – with many regions in the negatives further north too:
Send us in any pictures of frost or cold conditions – we’ll try and get as many as possible published or retweeted – to show off our beautiful country in midwinter!
