Like the most of Auckland, a group of us (Motorcyclists) will be heading out for the 3 days. We plan to ride up the west coast via Dargaville up to Kaitaia on the Saturday. Sunday and Monday look more settled but how windy/wet will it be riding up the West Coast on Saturday morning? Would it be better to hold off and head up around late morning/midday?
Thanks
Great site BTW

Hi there,
Thanks for the feedback and the question. Personally I’d suggest holding off until later on Saturday morning. The rain will ease in the late morning, then the winds will move in from behind you (the south east). Winds will be a strong south easterly but probably not gale force.

The Auckland Folk Festival takes place this weekend at Kumeu showground. There will be many people intending to camp there for the weekend (in both vans and tents). It looks as though Kumeu is a dead cert for the weekend storm. Are we being daft aiming to go? Not really your part of ship, but do you know if Kumeu could be flooded – perhaps dangerously? Thanks for your help, I’m sure your answer will help many people make their decision.

We don’t anticipate widespread flooding in Auckland, but there will be a period of very heavy rain between midnight Friday and noon Saturday that could cause some flooding in vulnerable areas. At this stage we expect Kumeu to have less rain than last weekend’s rain event. Strong winds are expected too. Sunday looks much drier with winds easing as the day goes on.

Looks a scrappy crappy weekend with it to the east rather than an exciting one if it went down the westcoast.
